A stereoview by Underwood & Underwood dated sometime between 1912 and 1920. This photo is taken from the top of the Drum Tower in the Tartar City of Beijing, looking due east. From the Drum Tower, a main road runs directly to Dongzhi Men, far away in the eastern wall. The enormous extent of Old Beijing may clearly be seen here, as the far gate is visible only as a small object in the extreme distance. (When seen through a stereoscopic viewer, such stereoviews appear vividly three-dimensional.)
